Ryan Gosling Describes the Impossible Gauntlet That Every Actor Must Survive
‘The percentage of actors achieving that dream is never.’ ~Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling may be a highly successful, famous actor today. But, not long ago, he was just another actor, going through the same struggles all actors endure.
Ryan Gosling gave a detailed description of the things he saw as a young, aspiring actor in the documentary Seduced and Abandoned. Below is an excerpt from the documentary, in Gosling’s own words.
“The best part about Los Angeles…it’s filled with all these Don Quixote type characters. You know? Everyone’s left their families, their homes, their friends, their jobs, to pursue a dream where they know that the percentage of them achieving that dream is ‘never’. And they do it anyway.”
“And everyone has shared the same dream, and no one is sure if it was a premonition or a delusion. And there’s only one way to find out.”
“You know, you’re lucky to get an audition. Then, you get it. You get there. You walk into a room full of guys who look just like you. You realize you’re not the only one who wore the cowboy hat.”
“Then, you can hear the other guy in the other room auditioning, and now you’re thinking about not doing it like him, as opposed to doing it the way that you wanted to do it.”
“Then, before you go in, you hear the casting director negotiating a deal for the guy who already got the part (that you’re about to audition for).”
“Then, you get to the scene where you’re supposed to cry over your friend. And you get the tears going and you’re emotional, and then the casting director gets a call (and leaves the room.)”
“Then, you go to your car (after the audition), you’ve got a parking ticket because the street cleaning sign has been covered up by the ‘Auditions This Way’ sign.”
“Then, you get in your car. You change.”
“Then, you go to another audition, and you wait in traffic for two hours, and then you go through it again.”
