    4 Auditions. Zero Callbacks!

    But I’m not complaining!

I went for two weeks without a single audition. And then, wham! I get a text message from my agent, asking why I still had not confirmed the 3 auditions that he sent.

My first thought was, WTF?!?! Three auditions? All due the next day? How the hell am I going to pull that off?

My next move was to tell him I would confirm them right away. Which I did.

Then, shortly after confirming them, I get hit with another audition. That put my total at four!

Mercifully, these were all self-tape requests, which meant I wouldn’t have to fight traffic and deal with parking. Still, four auditions??? I was excited for the opportunities. Yet, I was also dreading the idea of meeting the deadlines for four self-tapes.

I’ve come to realize that I can’t measure my success based only on callbacks and bookings. I measure success based on how consistently I can deliver good auditions. That’s what I want to do more than anything, each and every time.

I put my nose to the grindstone and I did it. One audition after another. Learning my lines along the way for each self-tape. Changing wardrobe along the way for each self-tape. Adjusting camera angles and adjusting the lighting for each self-tape. Following all instructions and guidelines…

And what did I get for all of my efforts? Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Not a single callback. No one was interested in seeing me any further.

But you know what? I’m still happy.

I used to get down on myself about situations like this. Not anymore!

I’ve come to realize that I can’t measure my success based only on callbacks and bookings. I measure success based on how consistently I can deliver good auditions. That’s what I want to do more than anything, each and every time.

As long as I do that, I know that, eventually one of those good auditions will lead to something great!
