“I think it’s about finding your happiness during the times when you’re not working.”
Soap star, Sean Kanan (General Hospital, Bold and the Beautiful), in a recent interview, explained the importance of finding joy outside of acting, given the unpredictable nature of the business and the long stretches of unemployment which are endemic to the actor’s life.
Said Kanan:
“You know, so much of acting is just looking for work. It’s an inordinate, disproportionate percentage of time that you’re looking for work as opposed to actually being on set, being employed, earning money…all of that sort of stuff.”
Natalie Martinez: “Just keep working hard, because the struggle never stops.”
“It’s critical that you can find happiness in life aside from the infrequent successes that you get as an actor.”
“It took me a long time to learn that. You obviously have to find it within yourself. And creating your support base, with your family, your friends around you.”
“It’s critical that you can find happiness in life aside from the infrequent successes that you get as an actor.”
“Get your happiness from that and then, everything else that comes into your life with acting is icing on the cake.”
Kanan has been nominated for several Soap Opera Digest Awards and a Daytime Emmy Award for his roles on shows like General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful.
