In an interview with Backstage, Australian-born actor, Dacre Montgomery, shared his thoughts on actors auditioning via self-tape and why it’s important to make bold choices that help you stand out.
“It was kind of like, how do I step up to the plate and do something really different and unique and that has me stand out?”
Dacre should know. Making a bold choice is exactly how he landed the role of Billy Hargrove in the second season of the Netflix series, Stranger Things.
“I think it’s important to stand out and make bold decisions. And I think that, there’s not enough people in the world that encourage that for artists.”
“And I think for me at home in Perth, which is where I am most of the time, Western Australia, you have to kind of take a leap of faith, especially in the self-taping world, with those parameters.”
“And, getting the audition, the morning that I did the tape (for Stranger Things), it was kind of like, how do I step up to the plate and do something really different and unique and that has me stand out?”
Montgomery is also known for playing Jason Lee Scott in the recent Power Rangers (2017) movie.
