    Part 2: Your Family

Your family can’t understand why you want to be an actor. You will keep hearing “actors don’t make any money” or some variation of this phrase, over and over again.

Your family doesn’t want you to move to a big city to pursue acting. They want you closer to home.

Your family keeps asking you how’s your acting career going. You tell them that things are going quite well. Truth is, you haven’t worked in a whole year!

Your parents and family don’t understand the business. So, they can’t understand why you’re not a star yet.

Your cousin thinks you should “get on” his favorite television show. Just call them and “get on it”, he says. You repeatedly tell him it’s not that easy. Yet he keeps insisting on it.

Your mom repeatedly gives you advice on how to improve your acting skills. Ironically, she’s never been an actor.

Your dad gives you money, because he knows you’re a poor, struggling actor. But, in accepting the financial help, you also have to accept his criticisms of your career choice.

You did a scene with a famous person. Now you’re feeling tempted to exaggerate your relationship with them, when talking to your relatives. Truth is, the famous person barely spoke to you on set and you never saw them again after the shoot.

All of your cousins are advancing in their careers, purchasing homes and starting families. Meanwhile, you’re having a nervous breakdown over the lack of progress in your acting career.

Your little sister got married and is now having a baby. Meanwhile, your acting career takes up too much of your time to have a proper relationship with anyone.

Your parents are disappointed in you. They sent you to college so you could have a prominent career, not to be…AN ACTOR?!?!

Your grandparents believe in you. Still, they’re quietly waiting for you to “give up on this whole acting nonsense.”
