QUESTION:
Is It Hard to Get a Talent Agent?
ANSWER:
Signing with a quality, reputable agent is difficult for most actors, yes! It can take time, but it can be well worth the wait.
Why is it so difficult to find an agent? Well, it mostly boils down to cold, hard cash! You see, talent agents only get paid when their client – you, the actor – gets paid from the work you do. And when they do get paid, it’s only a mere 10% commission.
5 Ways to Find a Good Talent Agent
That means, if you book a job that pays $2,000, your agent’s commission will only be $200.
Since they only receive a modest amount of your earnings, agents need actors who can book work consistently. That means, signing actors who are well-trained. That means, signing actors who are experienced. That means signing actors who have great marketing materials: great headshots, great clips, great credits.

That’s why, if you’re an inexperienced actor who doesn’t have great credits, great headshots, great clips, you will struggle to find a good agent who is willing to take you on.
The important thing is to not get frustrated by the process. It takes time. It can take 3 years or even longer to find a good agent.
Can I Get an Agent Without a Reel?
Another reason it’s hard to find a good agent is competition. There’s an ocean of actors fighting to get an agent. Some of them have great headshots, great credits, great clips and maybe even some connections. That’s who you’re competing with. So, naturally, it will take time for you to have what you need to compete.
Again, the important thing is to not get frustrated by the process. Just keep working. Your time will come!
