  • Trivia Answer: Boogie Nights

On October 10, 1997, Boogie Nights was released in the United States, to surprisingly good reviews. It still commands a 93% favorable rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film stars Mark Walberg as Eddie Adams, a high school dropout who leaves home after meeting up with pornography filmmaker Jack Horner. Horner takes an interest in Adams after auditioning him having sex with a porn starlet, an audition that showcased Adams’ good looks, star-power and anatomy.

Adams would go on to change his name to one more appropriate for the porn industry: Dirk Diggler.

The film was well-received at the box office, earning over $40 million, after filming on a budget of just $15 million. It was also nominated for 3 Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actor (Burt Reynolds), Best Supporting Actress (Julianne Moore), and Best Original Screenplay (Paul Thomas Anderson).
