Who Is Zoë Saldaña?
Zoë Saldaña is an acclaimed actress known internationally for major film franchises including Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Trek.
Her combination of movie-star recognition, elegance and natural screen presence made her an ideal fit for Grey Goose’s sophisticated advertising strategy.
Rather than functioning like a traditional spokesperson, Saldaña becomes a character inside the Grey Goose Hôtel world.
What Happens in “The Lastish Call”?
The hotel bar may be closed, but Saldaña is not ready for the night to end.
She quietly moves through the Hôtel collecting the ingredients and supplies needed to make another round of cocktails for her friends.
The joke is contained in the title: this is not necessarily the last call. It is merely the “last-ish” call.
Eventually, Saldaña and her friends get another opportunity to enjoy the evening together.
Acting Breakdown
Saldaña’s performance is built around intention.
She has a simple objective: keep the evening going. That gives the commercial a miniature dramatic structure rather than making it a collection of glamorous poses.
Her restrained reactions, playful facial expressions and almost secretive movement through the hotel give the spot its personality.
The result resembles a short European comedy more than a conventional vodka advertisement.
